Meet Alex

Thank you so much for visiting my page. You can call me Alex.

Alexandra Scivoletto, M.A.C., Registered Psychologist in Edmonton

When I was a little girl, I found myself deeply curious about people and their stories. Around grade five, I became fascinated by psychology textbooks and, perhaps a little young, the A&E show Intervention (seriously… who was letting me watch that?). It felt like a pivotal time in my life when I realized something that has stayed with me ever since: people are much more than their mistakes.

I was an avid journal writer, and in one of my journal entries I wrote that I wanted to become an ‘interventionist’. Although I may not have fully understood what that meant at the time, I think I already knew something important: people make sense within the context of their experiences. We are more than our coping strategies, painful moments, or the ways we’ve learned to survive.

That belief continues to guide my work today.

As existential therapist Emmy Van Deurzen writes, “we develop adaptations through problems in living.” My own interpretation of that is simple: being human is hard sometimes. Part of my role as a therapist is to walk alongside people through those experiences with care, curiosity, and compassion.

Beyond the Therapy Room

When I’m not in the therapy room, you’ll usually find me checking out one of my favourite local shops (see more on this in the FAQ!), listening to music or spending time with my family. This often includes playing make believe, racing hot wheels cars or pushing swings at the park with my two young sons. I’m a born-and-raised Edmontonian, and the river valley has always been one of my favourite places to recharge.

Fun fact: I’ve attended the Edmonton Folk Music Festival every year since 1997 (haven’t missed one yet!).
